Nature is simple - and there’s an easy way to literally “sniff out” whether or not a CBD product actually contains CBD isolate instead of a raw/natural/pure CBD Oil.
CBD isolate has no color and no odor (it is basically just white crystals of CBD) - because all of the other naturally occurring plant compounds (including other cannabinoids and terpenes) have literally been ’cooked off’ using heat and/or chemical solvents. "Isolated CBD" contains none of the other beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes that occur naturally in the cannabis plant!
CBD isolate is water soluble (because it is no longer a natural oil). May companies use CBD isolate because it is “cheaper” (of course you have no idea what you are actually getting) and much easier to work with. According to our lab, a majority of the samples of CBD isolate that they receive are spiked with solvents that can actually be neurotoxins. Many companies call their product “Full Spectrum” even if it is a CBD isolate - sometimes they will buy third-party terpenes and add them back in to “doctor” up the product.
A pure, raw, CBD Oil out of a supercritical CO2 extraction machine is actually a very dark amber in color and will have a very strong and distinct aroma (it smells “hempy”!). What you are smelling is the terpenes (terpenes are a plant compound in ALL essential oils) and what you are seeing are all of the other natural precious plant compounds that are preserved because of the low-heat extraction process. Nature does not produce CBD isolate - nature produces cannabinoids and terpenes in a very rich oil from the hemp plant.
