What is CBD?
CBD is an abbreviation for “cannabidiol” - one of over 85 phytocannabinoids that are naturally occurring in cannabis. CBD by itself has no psychotropic effects (no marijuana ‘high’ because it is NOT marijuana/THC). CBD has been shown to have properties, when ingested or applied topically, that may benefit your health. CBD can be found in hemp, and our proprietary genetics, organic/biodynamic farming practices, and supercritical CO2 extraction create the most pure and most potent product on the market.
What is CBD used for? Research has shown:
- Strong anti-inflammatory properties
- Helps the body to not make the chemical that causes inflammation
- Anti-convulsive properties
- The protection of nerves by inhibiting the processes that damage nerves
What does Whole Plant and Full Spectrum Mean?
Whole plant and full spectrum cannabinoids (and naturally occurring terpenes) are present in CBD oils that are extracted as oil from the plants themselves - and not further processed beyond that point. The oil, which can be extracted through a variety of methods, comes from the leaves, stems, and flowers of the plant - with the majority of cannabinoids coming from trichomes that can be found on the flower, stem, and leaves of the hemp. The oil contains not only CBD, but also other cannabinoids that are naturally occurring in the plant, as well as terpenes, and the essential fatty acids that are also inherently part of the plant.
CBD that comes from an ‘isolate’ most likely originated from a hemp/cannabis plant (not completely synthesized in a lab) - however, the CBD was isolated out from all of the other plant material - so that the only remaining component is ‘crystals’ of CBD. This product looks like a white powder - it does not contain any other naturally occurring parts of the plant from which it came. There are solvents that are used to extract the CBD to an ‘isolate’ - and unless those solvents are completely washed out, they may also be still present in the product.
At That’s Natural, we believe that whole-plant foods and medicines are the purest and most natural way to consume products that may have beneficial and holistic healing properties. We believe that nature - is pretty smart - and following nature’s laws, for instance, in distilling and preserving compounds in essential oils (like CBD oil extracted from hemp) is a fundamental part of making sure that the body has what it needs to metabolize the compounds.
What Cannabinoids and Terpenes are In Your Product?
The That’s Natural cannabinoids include: CBD (Cannabidiol), CBDa (Cannabidiolic Acid), CBC (Cannabichromene), CBG (Cannabigerol), and CBN (Cannabinol). The That’s Natural terpene profile includes: beta-myrcene, linalool, d-limonene, alpha-pinene, humulene, beta-caryophyllene (and others in trace amounts).
What is Supercritical CO2 Extraction?
The best way to preserve the full spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes is by Supercritical CO2 Extraction. This method of extracting the oil uses only food-grade carbon dioxide (CO2) and no other chemical solvents. It is also a very low temperature process - which is the best way to preserve these tiny molecules that are easily evaporated or degraded if they get too hot or reach a certain heat. At That’s Natural, we only uses CBD-rich hemp oil that is extracted from a Supercritical CO2 extraction process. We believe it is the most natural way to consume this type of product.
What do I do with it?
CBD-rich hemp oil can be used for both topical and oral applications. Our Premium CBD Hemp Oil Drops are recommended to be taken sublingually/orally - by first putting some under your tongue, and then swallowing it. There is a difference between our CBD-rich hemp oil and the “hemp seed oil” that is commonly used for topical applications in various skin products. Our CBD-rich hemp oil actually comes from the leaves, stems, and flowers of the hemp plants - which makes it very high in cannabinoids, specifically CBD, or Cannabidiol.
What is the dosage?
Per FDA guidelines, we cannot diagnose or prescribe, but our tincture label gives a suggested dosage of 1 dropper (approximately 25 drops). This would mean that there are approximately 25 servings at this rate. That’s Natural suggests starting out at 1/2 to 1 full dropper per day. Some of our customers take more. We commonly hear of people taking 2 full droppers daily. It is up to the consumer. Our product has no known side effects and can be taken several times daily or just once. The customer knows how they feel and we always suggest starting small and adjusting to the customer’s level of comfort based on the results, which vary by person. We encourage our customers to try it out, and experiment to see what works best for them.
What is the dosage for pets?
Per FDA guidelines, we cannot diagnose or prescribe and this is a decision for the pet owner. Most of our customers are telling us they use 1/4 dropper for small pets up to a full dropper for large pets, and sometimes an increase in that, depending upon the results. Suggested dosage is up to the individual to determine what’s best for them or their pet. Most people use the unflavored for pets and most always put it on food items for their pets to eat.
How long does one bottle last?
For the tincture - each .85 oz. bottle contains a total of 25ml and 250mg CBD with a 1ml dropper (in each dropper, there is approximately 10mg CBD). If you are taking one dropper per day, your bottle will last approximately 25 days. This is about the average for our customers, although we do have people who take more, or less, depending upon how they feel is best for them - everyone and every body is different.
What does it taste like?
Our Premium CBD Hemp Oil tastes… delicious! The Peppermint flavor has just a bit of peppermint oil that makes for a delicious and enjoyable sensation - try it! We now also offer an Orange flavor that comes from all natural orange oil. You can also try the ‘Unflavored’ version, which is a little ‘hempy’ - we have many customers who love it!
How much Cannabidiol, or CBD is in your product?
In the 250mg CBD Oil Tincture - there are 250mg total cannabinoids - 239 mg of our product is CBD, and then there are 11 mg of other cannabinoids. We independently test our product for this, and are proud of the purity of what we offer for customers. In the CBD-Rich Healing Crème, there are 250 mg of CBD. Not only do we have these high levels of CBD, but we also use Colorado-grown hemp (versus hemp from other countries) and to extract the oil, we use a supercritical CO2 extraction process - that means no solvents are ever used in producing our CBD hemp oil products.
Why do I take the CBD Oil drops under my tongue?
From Wikipedia: “When a chemical comes in contact with the mucous membrane beneath the tongue, it diffuses through it. Because the connective tissue beneath the epithelium contains a profusion of capillaries, the substance then diffuses into them and enters the venous circulation.” By starting with the oil drops under your tongue and then swallowing it - part of the cannabinoids are absorbed into the blood stream through sub-lingual route and part of it slowly absorbs into the blood through gastric walls in stomach. The effect is almost instantaneous on your body due to the sub-lingual absorption (less than 2 minutes) and a more delayed effect (20-30 minutes) due to the absorption through the gastrointestinal tract.
What would I use CBD-rich lotion for?
We have had customers reporting a range of applications for our premium CBD-rich lotion. This includes:
- Everyday use for skincare to decrease the signs of aging and for skin health
- Problem areas of the skin (redness, rashes, itching)
- Minor muscle aches and pains
We encourage you to try some for yourself and see what works best for you!
What makes your topical products absorb through the skin (what makes it transdermal)?
In our That's Natural products, it is not the carriers (the other ingredients in the lotions/salves) that do the work of the transdermal applications - it is the actual cannabinoids and terpenes in the product itself. Because CBD oil is like an essential oil (from hemp), the molecules that are in it are much smaller than the molecules of other oils - like hemp seed oil, olive oil, coconut oil, etc (these other oils are comprised of essential fatty acid molecules that are much longer and much larger than the molecules found in essential oils of plant material).
Essential oils are made of the tiniest of molecules - these are molecules that are small enough to pass through all of the tissues of the plant and into their cells. These same molecules are those that can penetrate the skin and the blood-brain barrier of a human being. Any compound that is less than (<) 500 amu (atomic mass units - the measurement of how heavy molecules are) can do this. That is what makes compounds in essential oils so effective in the human body. They bring nutrition and information into cells, and transport out waste products.
Cannabidiol's (CBD) molecular mass is 314.4636 - this is under the 500 amu that is the approximate limit for which products can absorb into the skin. This is what allows this molecule to act trans-dermally. The other ingredients ("carriers or carrier oils”) in the product are meant to allow the product to be spread upon larger surface areas - they are not what make the product effective at absorbing into the skin.
Is this legal?
Hemp products are and have been legal to buy and sell in all 50 States. If you go to a health food store, or even a Wal-Mart, you will find hemp granola, hemp cereal, hemp protein drinks, even just plain hemp seeds to add to your salad! Our hemp, grown in Colorado, has been grown to be especially high in the phytocannabinoid CBD (Cannabidiol) although there are other cannabinoids and terpenes that are in our whole plant, full spectrum product.
What Part of the Cannabis Plant is Your CBD Made out of?
That’s Natural uses the leaves, stems, and flowers of the hemp plant to create our Premium CBD-Rich Hemp Oil. We do not use the stalks!
Can there be a variation in color or smell?
Yes. Product variation is normal because our farmers have hemp plants that can vary slightly depending upon growing conditions... That's Natural! : )
As the product ages, the color and smell will 'settle’ - this does not affect the amount of cannabinoids and terpenes in the product. The thing to remember is that the product's CBD content will always be there, and the variations in smell and color are due to the natural variations in our CBD-rich hemp oil. Nature is dynamic, creative, and ever-changing. We let nature do her thing - variation is part of that process.
We liken it to the 'mother' that you see in apple cider vinegar and kombucha drinks - this is naturally occurring and slightly different from batch to batch. Being all natural means letting the plants do their thing and knowing that season to season and farmer to farmer, there will always be slight variation. What we promise is that the cannabinoids, CBD, and terpenes will be the most potent and powerful that can be produced using organic and biodynamic farming practices.
