Limonene is commonly found in a lot of citrus fruits, as well as hemp and often gives products their flavor. However, aside from its flavoring, Limonene is also a relaxant, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Limonene was not only effective at low doses, but also at high doses, as it increased duration of sleep, which is indicative of a potentiation of sleeping time. “Our study showed that citral, limonene and myrcene presented sedative as well as motor relaxant effects. Although only at the highest dose, they also produced a potentiation of the pentobarbital-induced sleeping time in mice, which was more intense in the presence of citral.”
Additionally, CBD has many studies regarding sleep. This study from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), shows that 48/72 (67%) patients that had poor sleep showed an improvement in the first month of using CBD. Additionally, CBD was well tolerated in all but three patients. This study shows that while CBD does help people sleep, it may be due to its anxiolytic effects more than actual sleep regulation.
These studies again show the power of using a full-spectrum product, as opposed to an isolated product of CBD.
