The pioneering Israeli researcher, Raphael Mechoulam, is hoping that his research of CBDA (Cannabidiolic Acid) will be utilized sooner than later for people suffering from pain and anxiety.
It was over 30 years ago that he discovered many of the effects of CBD (Cannabidiol), however there is some remorse that it took three decades for his research to be widely used.
In the case of CBDA, one of over 113 known phytocannabinoids from the cannabis plant, Professor Mechoulam is hoping that these discoveries catch on quicker, to help more people.
From an NBC article:
“The naturally occurring but unstable CBD acid (CBDA) is a thousand times more potent than CBD in binding to a particular serotonin receptor thought to be responsible for alleviating nausea and anxiety.”
These more ‘volatile’ acids that are a part of the cannabinoid profile of cannabis plants may prove being even more effective at treating pain and disease. The conclusion?
“Their work is quite innovative, and it definitely builds on what we know related to the potential therapeutic effects of cannabinoids,” Cooper said, adding that the compound could be particularly effective for pain control. Cooper said that while more testing will be needed to determine effectiveness and safety for humans, EPM’s results so far are “quite encouraging.”
