CBD massages have been quickly rising in recent years. Whether it be a spa at a high-end resort, or your one-person spa, it’s a growing craze. What a lot of spas are finding out is it isn’t always about the biggest margin – but the best product. Spas are businesses – their goal is to make money. So, obviously margins are important to them, but let’s examine why margins aren’t necessarily everything for the spa owner.
Bioavailability: Using topical products makes it a lot harder for CBD products to be bioavailable. Often times, isolates (products where everything except the CBD is extracted) are simply not bioavailable – but they are much cheaper. A full-spectrum product, containing both cannabinoids and terpenes, is much more bioavailable than isolates. This means that the spas customers will actually notice a difference and keep coming back.
Retail options: Although a lot of therapists are using CBD for massages, not all of them are also carrying products to sell on the retail side. The ones that do often experience the “That massage was amazing, is there a way to buy that lotion/oil/cream?” This provides a huge opportunity for those therapists looking to make up much more than the margins they might have lost by choosing a quality, premium, full-spectrum product, instead of an isolate.
Private label: Although there are generally some sort of stipulations for private label options, if the spa is big enough, and using enough product, some companies will offer a private label option. This allows the spa to put their name on retail items leaving the store that people loved enough to buy.
Repeat and new customers: This largely falls back onto carrying a premium product. People love to talk. If someone receives the best massage of their life and is able to buy that same product at a certain spa, word will spread. Not only will that happy customer repeatedly come back, but they will tell their friends how that product has helped them. This might lead to more massages for the spa, but also will very likely lead to people just wanting to buy the product from that spa.
Relief for the CMT: Certified Massage Therapists often experience a lot of pain of their own. Their hands hurt, their fingers hurt, and their bodies hurt. If they are willing to put in a little bit of marketing into their CBD massages, they can experience some relief from that pain as well, as they use a CBD product for a massage or two a day. This leads to more giving and happy therapists. Reduce their pain, and they will likely give more to their customers to make their experience better.
There are many more benefits that spas can see for using a quality, full-spectrum CBD line of products. Although their initial margins may not be as much because of the added expense of buying the initial product, their overall profit is likely to skyrocket for choosing the right product. Do your research. Buy a product that is full-spectrum, has third party testing, uses a supercritical C02 extraction method, and is grown in the US (or Colorado).
