A recent study by the JCI Journal examined the impact of CBD and blood pressure.  According to the study, their data suggests that a single dose of CBD can reduce a person’s resting blood pressure as well as reduce the blood pressure response to stress. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in every 3 American’s suffer from high blood pressure. High blood pressure (hypertension) is often referred to as the “silent killer” because it doesn’t typically have any signs or symptoms. In fact, many people that suffer from hypertension don’t know they have it!

A recent study by the JCI Journal examined the impact of CBD and blood pressure. The results may surprise you. Nine healthy male volunteers received a dose of either CBD or a placebo in a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, crossover study.

“CBD reduced resting systolic BP (–6 mmHg; P < 0.05) and stroke volume (–8 ml; P < 0.05), with increased heart rate (HR) and maintained cardiac output. Subjects who had taken CBD had lower BP (–5 mmHg; P < 0.05, especially before and after stress), increased HR (+10 bpm; P < 0.01), decreased stroke volume (–13 ml; P < 0.01), and a blunted forearm skin blood flow response to isometric exercise. In response to cold stress, subjects who had taken CBD had blunted BP (–6 mmHg; P < 0.01) and increased HR (+7 bpm; P < 0.05), with lower total peripheral resistance.”

According to the study, their data suggests that a single dose of CBD can reduce a person’s resting blood pressure as well as reduce the blood pressure response to stress. This may help explain why CBD has been used to reduce anxiety and pain levels. Interestingly, CBD is also believed to act as a neuroprotectant that may help prevent heart disease and stroke.

The study did conclude that further testing is needed to state whether CBD can consistently lower blood pressure levels, but also stated that it is very promising at the potential possibility of CBD reducing and/or preventing certain cardiovascular disorders.
